It all started with the words, “your position is being eliminated.”
Sometimes the hardest things you go through lead you through growth you didn’t know you needed.
Running my own business was not on my bingo card for 2024. But then, I didn’t have “getting laid off” on my card, either.
I’ve freelanced for years, writing articles and features for newspapers such as the Burlington County Times, a personal essay in HuffPost and contributing photos and content to magazines like Shape and NailIt! Magazine (the latter of which is no longer). I created Jomax Branding & Communications to catch me as I fell into a period of grieving, a purposeful way to organize the capabilities I have to offer for potential clients as I applied for countless roles at countless companies and received countless rejections in one of the hardest job markets I’ve ever experienced. As I networked with the goal of finding my next corporate communications leadership role - I landed freelance work that changed my outlook on everything.
Now, I’m focusing my time on growing Jomax, bringing in clients with different needs and goals. Right now I’m doing a lot of work in the cybersecurity and IT industry, and it’s exciting! I’m thrilled to do both writing and PR, and to help people and companies with social media content - particularly on LinkedIn.
So when life hands you lemons, figure out how to bet on yourself!
